Our Southern France holiday homes are located especially in the South-West of France (Dordogne, Lot and Lot-et-Garonne). This region is specifically known for the most beautiful and cultural-historical part of France. There are many great attractions so that your children can easily be entertained. In short, a region where everyone will be satisfied. To encourage you to visit please visit this site: http://www.mooisteplekjes-midipyrenees.nl , this contains 24 movies with spectacular images of the region. There are plenty of "Plus Beaux Villages de France" in the region, such as Beynac, La Roque-Gageac, St-Leon-sur-Vezere, Domme and Belvès. The town of Sarlat, with the most lively market in the region on Wednesday and on Saturday, has been restored to its 17th century-18th century magnificence with such perfection that it is often used as a film set for French films.
Therefore FranceVilla:
Prehistoric sites not far from your holiday villa in Southern France
There are more than 150 prehistoric sites alone along the Vezere River. The most famous is of course Lascaux which although a reproduction, still gives you goosebumps. Other caves are among others that of Font-de-Gaume and Combarelles in Les Eyzies, Rouffignac and Bara-Bahau (engravings), the caves of Lacave and Padirac and numerous smaller sites and / or prehistoric caves. The village Troglodytique de la Madeleine and the site of Roque St-Christophe are sites where you can see how people lived in prehistory.
Castles in the Dordogne
At Castelnaud you can see a catapult exhibition and you can see how it was to live in a real castle. Fun for kids and teens! The Chateau de Beynac has been carefully restored over the last decade and now houses a fine collection of medieval furniture. You can also visit the 19th century castle of Josephine Baker “Les Milandes”, where she lived with her many adopted children. All these sights are not far from your holiday home in southern France.
The overwhelming nature
During your Southern France vacation you will regularly see deer, roe deer, badgers and / or foxes. But you can also encounter many kinds of raptors, woodpeckers, jays, kingfishers and other species this area is rich of. The wild boar you can see you in some periods (les sangliers), they dig in the ground for the black and white truffles (a delicacy by the way!). If you are interested in the animals and plants than we can recommend "Parc d'animaliers de Gramat".
Canoeing and exciting attractions
Canoeing and kayaking on the rivers are popular sports, and there is plenty of rental potential. One of the nicest ways to spend a day in the area is to hire a couple of canoes, bring a picnic basket and slide down the Dordogne river, admiring the castles along the river. Looking for more excitement? Then visit the Foret des Ecureuilles.
Food and Dining
The Périgord is known as the gastronomic capital of France and it has got good reason. Here you can eat foie gras and truffles (les diamants noirs du Périgord) and each town has shops with these local treasures. Other local specialties include duck confit, walnut cake, walnut wine and liquor. Local wines are Monbazillac, Bergerac and Pécharmant. Restaurants are plentiful, and it's hard to find a bad meal in the Perigord.
All this makes a holiday in southern France so unique.
